Getting Started
CaptionCraft turns a single transcript into caption text for five social media platforms — TikTok, Shorts, Reels, LinkedIn, and Facebook — in seconds. Here is how:
- Paste your transcript into the text area on the App page. Copy it from your video editor, speech-to-text output, or notes.
- Click Shape. CaptionCraft applies each platform's character limit and line conventions automatically.
- Edit any variant inline to match your voice — click EDIT, make your changes, then click DONE.
- Copy a variant with one click and paste it into your chosen platform.
- Come back later. Your transcript and edits are saved in your browser (localStorage) and reappear when you return.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is CaptionCraft free?
Yes — entirely free, no tiers, no trials, no paid features. There is no monetisation on the roadmap, and the product is not for sale.
Do I need an account?
No. You can use the full tool without signing in. Your captions are saved in your browser's localStorage on that device. Sign-in is available for cross-device persistence — when you sign in, captions sync to the server and follow you across browsers.
Where are my captions saved? Are they backed up?
Captions are stored only in your browser's localStorage — the same storage other sites use for preferences. There is no server-side database, so clearing your browser data will remove them. To avoid losing your work, copy captions to a document if you need a permanent record.
Does CaptionCraft work on mobile?
Yes — the app page is responsive and works in mobile browsers. Paste, shape, edit, and copy just as you would on desktop.
How does the shaping work? Is it AI?
No AI is involved. CaptionCraft applies simple formatting rules — primarily each platform's character limit — to the words you paste. It does not generate new copy, suggest hooks, rewrite your voice, or change your meaning. What you paste is what gets formatted.
Can I edit a caption after it is shaped?
Yes. Each variant card has an EDIT button. Click it to make the text editable inline, make your changes, then click DONE. Your edits are saved automatically.
Can I delete a saved caption?
Yes. Saved captions appear as labelled chips below the app header. Click the × on a chip to delete it.
My transcript is longer than the platform character limits — what happens?
CaptionCraft fills each variant up to that platform's limit (TikTok: 150, Shorts: 250, Reels: 200, Facebook: 400, LinkedIn: 700 characters). Text beyond the limit is truncated at the nearest word boundary. If you need more room, edit the variant after shaping.
Known Limitations
CaptionCraft is an early, honest product. Here is what it does not do — so you know before you invest time.
No AI-generated captions
CaptionCraft shapes the words you already wrote. It does not write new copy, suggest hooks, or rewrite your voice.
No video processing
This is a text-only tool. There is no upload, player, preview, timing, or sync with video.
No team features
No shared workspaces, collaborator invites, comments, or approval flows. One person using this alone is the complete product.
No posting or scheduling
CaptionCraft gives you text to paste wherever you post. It does not publish to any platform.
No email
No email alerts, sharing links, or invites. There is no email sender in this fleet.
No cross-device sync (auth host pending)
Sign-in with server-side caption sync is built and ready. It requires the shared fleet auth host (auth.agen2ic.ai) to be deployed. Until then, captions remain browser-local only.
Simple word-level shaping
The shaping function fills characters up to the platform limit at word boundaries. It does not summarise, paraphrase, or optimise for engagement — it truncates honestly.
